Sweet Violeta was born two weeks early at home on April 12th. Her Mama laboured in the birthing pool. The process went quicker than expected (6hrs) and despite her real desire for a home water birth the intensity took over and medical pain relief was looking like the best option. Just when she was begging to go to the hospital I realised that were we in Brasil she would have a medical team around her at home and be reassured where she was in the process. Jana needed reassurance by the midwife that her baby was close coming and the process was going well. I called the midwife and said we needed her to come to the home before deciding to go to the hospital for pain relief. She was busy with another labouring Mama so she said she would call her back up to come to the house.
Fortunately the midwife (who surprisingly could speak a bit of Portugese) was just on time and the baby was born 20 minutes later on the birthing stool into her Mama’s arms. Often when you get to that phase when you think you can’t handle the intensity anymore it is a sign that the baby is very close to being born.
Jana, it was tough but you were more awesome than you know. Anderson, we were a great support team together, it makes me smile when I think of it. Thank you Roos (the midwife) you were amazing.
